Obituary of Hilda Emilie HUSSMAN

HUSSMAN, Hilda Emilie (nee Hoffmann) October 19, 1921 – Wiesdorf, Germany October 12, 2013 – Calgary, Alberta Hilda Hussman, beloved mother of Paul and Carol, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the age of 91 years. Hilda was born in Wiesdorf, Germany, and was one of five children of Richard and Margarethe Hoffmann. She immigrated to Canada in 1951 with her husband, Hans, and son Paul. The family settled in the Brooks / Rolling Hills region of southeastern Alberta, where the family grew with the birth of daughter Carol. They eventually moved to Drumheller, and then on to Calgary and surrounding region, where Hilda resided for the rest of her life. A very creative person and talented artist, she excelled at oil painting, sketching, needlework and fabric arts. Her cooking and baking were superb, and she loved to pass on her recipes and skills to others. Hilda and her husband travelled extensively, never hesitating to take their young children with them and introducing them to new adventures and cultures. Hilda and Hans also loved the outdoors, considering themselves to be incredibly fortunate to be able to spend much of their leisure time in the nearby Rockies. Hilda lived a long and adventurous life, witnessing the changing of our world from the horse and buggy days all the way up to our modern, technology-driven times. She experienced the horrors of war, the adventure of immigration and life in a new land, the joys and challenges of motherhood, the company of many good friends, and the heartbreak of illness. It was an amazing journey. Hilda is survived by her loving son Paul Hussman (Gail) of Vancouver, BC; daughter Carol Hussman of Calgary; grandsons Shaun Hussman and Mark Hussman of Vancouver, BC; and sister Erika Harries of Springe, Germany. Hilda was predeceased by her husband Hans; sisters Marta Sauer and Ilsa Hoffmann; and brother Paul Hoffmann. Hilda had requested to be cremated and her ashes scattered at one of her favourite outdoor spots in the Rockies. At the request of the family, no funeral or memorial service is planned.
