Obituary of Sonja Martha Klara CANTRILL

May 4, 1928 – Hanover, Germany April 22, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta Sonja Cantrill of Calgary passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at the age of 89 years. Mom was truly a lovely lady, kind and loving to her family and friends. She was a devoted gardener, although she did curse the squirrels for digging up her tulips. Mom was a wonderful baker and homemaker. She and Dad immigrated to Canada in 1956 with Dad having left the British forces to join the Canadian Lord Strathcona’s. What a shock it must have been to arrive in Calgary in wintertime. She embraced her new country with trepidation (when does it stop snowing?) and enthusiasm (the Calgary Stampede and Banff Park). We are all so grateful to have had her in our lives. Rest in Peace, Mom, sitting there with Dad and Sean, enjoying chicken soup and blueberry pie. Sonja, a kind, generous and beloved mom, will be remembered by her children, Dennis (Darla), Angelina, and Michael (Geri); dearly loved grandmother to Stuart (Sarah), Stephen (Kirstie), Stefanie (Trapper), Jennifer (Jeff), Kristine (Matt), and Evan; cherished great-grandmother to Aden, Ty, Xander, Saleen, Kacey, Logan, Hudson, Lochlan, and Kasen; dear sister to Trudi Goulden of Farnham, United Kingdom; and auntie to Heidi Goulden (Antonio) of Milan, Italy. Sonja was predeceased by her husband William Cantrill in May 1991; her grandson Sean Cantrill in March 2003; and her parents Emil and Klara Kunz of Germany. A Celebration of Sonja’s Life will be held at on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Condolences may be forwarded through .
