Condolences
I just heard this news and couldn’t believe it could be true. Janis and I were in the same year at Westminster Secondary School in London and reconnected when a 35-year reunion was organized in 2004. We communicated after the passing of Jennifer last winter, who coincidentally shared a room in Victoria Hospital Palliative Care with my cousin, Liz Mann, who passed on March 31. I was so pleased to be in touch with Janis after so many years. She was always such a fun person and so kind and friendly. So this news has truly knocked me over and I want to say how deeply sorry I am and offer my deepest condolences to her husband, children and siblings who I didn’t know (I knew Jim, Janis and Jennifer at school) but who I know are missing her. My thoughts and prayers will continue to go out to you all.
My very deep and sincere sympathies on the loss of your mother. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
Sorry to here about Jan, When I ran into you at the Foothills I didn’t realize how little time she had. My thoughts are with you and your family.
I got to know Janice while I was working as a substitute teacher at Glenbow School. What a wonderful, loving and caring person she was. She always had a kind word to say and shared her happy smile with everyone. I sincerely offer my condolence to her family.
Janis will always be remembered fondly by our family. She gave two of our sons such a great start in school as their grade one teacher, and our third son enjoyed having her as a substitute teacher. Janis and I always enjoyed each other’s company and I will miss running in to her!
Dave

I had the pleasure of seeing her when I was working at the pool when she brought the grand kids! I am so sorry for your loss. We moved to Nova Scotia in the spring so I will not be able to make it to the church but I will be thinking of her.

It was a shock to learn of Janis’ recent death, as we were colleagues at Glenbow Elementary School for some years. I have known Janis to be a perceptive, vibrant, caring woman who loved life and thoroughly enjoyed her work with young learners over the years. Her compassion for others will linger in my memory. May you sense the care of others at this time and as you enter a new chapter of life as a larger family.
The bright sincerity that Janice offered to people she met is something to be treasured and emulated. She has made the world a better place. My condolences to her family for this untimely loss.

Dear Dave and Family,
We are very sorry for your loss. Janis will be missed beyond measure. I hope you know what a difference she made in so many young people’s minds, including our youngest daughter. Janis stepped in as a replacement teacher at Easter for a teacher who had been ailing most of the year. At that point our daughter was having a lot of difficulties with school and it was almost impossible to get her to go. After only two days she was smiling and excited to go to school because Mrs. McBride was there! And the year went great after that. Years later Janis would still ask about Lisa when we met and I know she was genuinely interested. A lovely, kind woman who may a world of difference to many. May that give you some solace at this very difficult time.

Dave, Truper, Tyler and Morgan, and Jason, my heart is breaking for you all. Janny and I had the most wonderful conversation in August about what she was facing. Her attitude was inspirational to the point of, dare I say, uplifting. So typically Janny! I had the distinct feeling I was already talking to a living angel. Although I cannot be physically with you on Friday, I will be there in thought and prayers. Love Cousin Catherine

I just pulled out a card from Janice, dated Sept.’08, and re-read it … She taught the world around her the power and beauty of a smile and loving gesture. She offered us both…and will be greatly missed.
You always greeted anyone you knew with a keen ear, a warm smile and a positive take on things. I enjoyed teaching next door to you and having fun after school chats. Rest in peace beautiful lady and may we carry with us the wise lessons you have taught us. Sincerest condolences.

Trouper,
Sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. Dolina & I both know that there is nothing as profound, in a person’s life, as the loss of a mother. Sincere condolences to you and your family.
Having only had the opportunity to witness her remarkable teaching talent for a short time, it was very clear that she embodied the role heart and soul. I truly appreciated her kind words of advice and encouragement, as well as our lunch time chats. She will truly be missed. My greatest sympathy to her family and friends.

Janis was a kind and wonderful woman. In grade one I was having a hard time with school, Mrs. McBride helped me through all of that, I don’t think I would be who I am today without her. She will be dearly missed.
My life is richer due to Janis’ presence in this world. Her passion for children and belief in EVERY child shone through. Her selflessness and care for all touched our lives. She will live on in my heart and I know I feel honoured to watch her grandchildren learn and grow, just as the way she loved every child she taught.

As I read through the condolences, I could not help but notice these words recurring- “warm”, “kind”, “loving”, “dedicated”,and a “gentle spirit” “full of light”. I did not know Janis well, but I remember fondly how she welcomed me, my daughters and their 2 babies to her home outside of Cochrane for a lovely afternoon. She and Dave were gracious welcoming hosts, and you could tell how much she loved her surroundings and her animals. My heart goes out to Truper, Tyler and Morgan at this time of loss. Please know that Andy and I are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers . Ann and Andy McGregor (Carrie’s mom and dad)
