Obituary of Raphael WALTER
September 12, 1937 – Puchowitschi, Belarus
July 30, 2013 – Calgary, Alberta
Ray Walter of Calgary, AB, passed away suddenly on Tuesday July 30, 2013 at the age of 75 years.
He was born in Puchowitschi, Belarus into a German family. His early childhood was immersed with World War II as he and his family moved to Poland and then Germany. After twelve years in Germany, Ray immigrated to Canada with his family. After an eventful sea voyage on the Beaverbrae, and a train ride west, they settled in Saskatchewan. In school Ray was always an honour student; he always thought “outside the box” and was very outspoken. His kind and supportive nature was extended to his family and to all mankind. Ray was the eternal optimist, always ready with a solution to any problem. Some of his best years were spent at the University of Saskatchewan. He moved to Calgary in 1963. His many selfless acts of support for his widowed mother and younger sisters will always be appreciated. He was a successful landlord, and had a great interest in real estate.
Ray will be sadly missed by his sisters, Lucy (Mike) Sorbara, Monica (Mervyn) Barron, Victoria Walter, and Angela (Bradley) Norrington. Besides his parents, Adam and Amalia, Ray was predeceased by his two brothers, Peter and Eugene; and two sisters, Eugenia van Vlaanderen and Rosa Gette. He is survived by many nephews and nieces. His nephews, Alexander Norrington and Adam (Dawn) Norrington hold a very special place in their hearts for him.
Memorial Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
