Obituary of Leonard Frederick BIRKENES
October 2, 1922 – Vulcan, AB
July 20, 2013 – Calgary, AB
Born in Vulcan, Len grew up in the farming community of Lomond, AB. At eighteen he joined the Royal Canadian Navy, serving overseas in Combined Operations. After trade school, Len settled in Calgary and married Esther in 1949. Len was a dedicated husband, father and friend. After retirement from Consolidated Concrete he enjoyed traveling throughout Canada, woodworking and the Naval Veteran’s Association.
Len is survived by his wife Esther, daughter Carol, brother Robert (Del) and numerous other relatives.
He was predeceased by parents Mary and Herbert, daughter Lynn, brothers and sisters-in-law Ronald (Maude), Victor (Judy) and nephew Wayne.
Len was a kind and gentle man and will be dearly missed.
