Obituary of Catherine Cathy Anne MRACEK

July 3, 1962– Gander, NL July 20, 2013– Calgary, AB Catherine “Cathy” Anne Mracek of Calgary, AB passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013 at the age of 51 years. Born July 3, 1962 in Gander, Newfoundland; our little Newfie grew up in Saskatoon and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in Geo-Physics and Geological Engineering. Cathy worked both in oil and gas and national defence industries while living in Calgary after graduation. She took great pride in joining her dad and four older brothers as professional engineers. Keith Urban was her music of choice and she made a point of travelling and watching him live when ever she got the chance. She was also a season ticket holder of the Calgary Stampeders for many years and enjoyed watching games with her brother. When not working or travelling, fishing with dad became her vacation of choice, particularly up at Sealey Lake. During these trips playing cribbage with her dad and snacking on Jube-Jubes and peanuts occupied the evening. After she was diagnosed with cancer and her mobility became reduced, she used her considerable photography skills to take photos at her niece’s soccer games. She was the unofficial team photographer at many championship and tournament games, and as such collected many medals over the last five years. Cathy is survived by her father Bert and older brothers Michael, Bill John and Brian. She was predeceased by her mother Jean.
