Obituary of John Cameron – Honourary Consul General
November 20, 1932- Dublin, Ireland
June 28, 2013 – Calgary, AB
Cameron (JC) Millikin, 80 of Calgary passed away on Friday, June 28.
Born in Dublin, Ireland to John and Olive Millikin, November 20, 1932. Cameron graduated from Trinity College Dublin. In 1963 he married the love of his life and wife of 50 years, Susan Patricia Millikin, in Calgary.
After arriving in Canada in 1956, Cameron worked his way from the oil derricks in Northern Canada to the corporate offices in Calgary. Widely respected in a broad range of circles (rugby, rowing, business and politics), Cameron spent years working for the Canadian government at home and abroad, most notably his years on the ground in Ireland working towards the N. Ireland Peace Agreement. He had recently retired his final post as Canadian Honourary Consul General to Ireland. He passed away on a flight home to Calgary from Ireland, his heart halfway between the two places he loved.
He is survived by his wife Susan; three sons (Rory, Craig and John); and five grandchildren (Sophia, Jack, Georgia, Julia, and London). He was deeply loved by all and will be sorely missed.
Memorial Services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) Calgary, on Friday July 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Calgary Drop-In and Rehab Centre, www.thedi.ca.
