Obituary of Norman BLAINE

1940 – Winnipeg, MB 2013 – Calgary, AB We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Norm on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at the age of 73. Norm was born in 1940 in Winnipeg, to Velma and Bacil Blaine. Norm grew up in Dauphin with his brothers Harold and Don. He loved playing sports and excelled at baseball, hockey and curling. He obtained his degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Manitoba in 1962 and went on to work for Lennox Industries (Canada) and Nova Corporation. Norm raised three children with Sue Blaine (nee Guthrie). They moved their young family from Winnipeg to Tsawwassen, BC, and eventually settled in the Lake Bonavista area of Calgary. Norm spent many hours golfing at Willow Park Golf Course, and enjoyed watching team sports when he could no longer participate. In later years, Norm met Lillian Wilson, his devoted companion to the end. He was a social butterfly and enjoyed meeting people, going to the legion, and above all dancing! Norm loved all his grandchildren, and there was nothing more important than attending one of their concerts or sporting events. Norm developed Dementia and Parkinson’s disease, but throughout these struggles he remained a gentle and honest man. Norm is survived by David (Lesley), Don (Loni), Patti (Niall O’Driscoll) and grandchildren Adam, Brenna, Andy, Sophie, Declan, Conall, and Finn. Special recognition goes to Bob Schmidt, Norm’s friend for many years – you teach us all what friendship means, Lillian Wilson who made Norm smile and even convinced him to model; and Louise Quesnel who truly cared and kept Norm company while in the Bethany Care Centre. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
