Obituary of Stanley Robert SELLICK

1921-Victoria, British Columbia 2013 – Calgary, Alberta Stanley Robert (Bob) Sellick, passed away peacefully at home in Calgary on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the age of 92 years with his loving wife Lillian at his side. Stanley was born in Victoria, BC, the only child of David and Jennie (Baines) Sellick. As he lost his mother at the early age of 5, he became extremely close to his father and grandfather. He fondly spoke of his childhood memories of going on fishing trips up to Qualicum Beach with his grandfather. Stanley enlisted in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve (RCNR) in 1940, where he served until the end of World War II. It was while he was stationed in Winnipeg he met and married his loving wife Lillian, they have enjoyed 68 years together. After the war they lived in a few different cities, Victoria, Winnipeg and Regina, as Stanley had a couple of different jobs before rejoining the RCNR as a recruiting officer for the Korean War. In 1955, he joined North British Insurance Company and after a few different stops in Calgary, Brandon and Regina, they moved to Calgary in 1960 where they have resided ever since. Stanley retired from Commercial Union Insurance as a Senior Claims Manager in 1981. After a year or two of retirement, he joined the Corps of Commissionaires and was fortunate enough to have worked security for the 1988 Winter Olympics display in Palliser Square downtown. He really enjoyed the many people he met from all over the world. After a few years, he again retired and became an avid crib player along with Lillian at the Royal Canadian Legion #264. They had a lot of fun travelling around to various Legions and had the good fortune to play in the provincial championships many times. In the early 1970’s Stanley and Lillian purchased a travel trailer and parked it at Green Acres Resort at Pine Lake where they enjoyed over 30 years of fun and made many friends. Stanley was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Stanley leaves to mourn his loving wife Lillian, his 5 children – Russell (Carol) Sellick, Bonnie (Norman) New, James Sellick, Marshall (Marguerite) Sellick and Cameron (Joan) Sellick; 8 grandchildren – Tara (Brian) Kuervers, Kevin (Edie) Sellick, Jeffrey Sellick, Heather New (Errin), Tracy New (Luke), Jamie Sellick (Roxanne), Phoenix (Mike) Lyon, Amber (Michael) Brown; 8 great grandchildren; two sister-in-laws Pearl Corrigan and Joyce Webber of Winnipeg and numerous nieces and nephews.
