Obituary of Hilda RAWCLIFFE

1928 – County of Preston, Lancashire, England 2013 – Calgary, Alberta Hilda Rawcliffe, beloved wife of the late Albert Eric Rawcliffe, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 15, 2013 at the age of 84 years. Mum was born Hilda Bradshaw on June 30, 1928, to parents Esther and Frederick Bradshaw. She married Albert Eric Rawcliffe in 1948 at Our Lady and St. Gerard Chapel in Tardy Gate, Black Lane Walton-le Dale, Lancashire, England. Mum and Dad immigrated to Canada in 1952 where they eventually settled in Calgary, living in Wildwood until their retirement and relocation to Winfield near Kelowna, BC. Mum and Dad enjoyed many years in Winfield and made numerous friends and had some great times visiting the various wineries. After Dad’s passing in 2007, Mum moved back to Calgary to be closer to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mum enjoyed the role of “matriarch” of the family and looked forward to holding court at family celebrations. She will be missed very much by everyone she touched during her life, particularly her daughter-in-law Beverley who was the daughter she never had. They shared a special bond established when they met in 1967, a bond that will continue beyond her passing. Mum called Beverley her “angel” and they often shared special moments to which no one else was privy. We often wondered what devious plans were afoot; turned out they simply loved each other. Mum is survived by her two sons Steve (Beverley) and Wayne (Henry). “Nana” will also be lovingly remembered by her four grandchildren Serena (Graham), Anya (Colin), Steven (Maaike) and Robert (Nina); and 10 great grandchildren Dana, Parker, Kaitlin, Lauren, Beckham, Isabelle, Keegan, Liam, Ella-Jet and Maya. She left a rich legacy of love and the importance of family, which will live on in everybody’s hearts. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass to Celebrate Mum’s Life will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 – 14th Street S.W.) on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Unit 72 at the Rocky View General Hospital and especially to Dr. Bassinger whose kindness and compassion made Mum’s final days comfortable and peaceful. In living memory of Hilda Rawcliffe, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: (403) 241-0044.
