Obituary of Joseph SZEGEDI

1919 – Homok Terenye, Hungary 2013 – Calgary, Alberta Joseph Szegedi was born on March 30, 1919 in Homok Terenye, Hungary and passed away on May 12, 2013 in Calgary, AB at the age of 94 years. Joseph emigrated from Hungary to Canada in 1936 and settled in East Coulee, AB with his mother, father and sister Mary. He was a shoemaker and also worked for the University of Calgary for 20 years. Joe was a master gardener who took great pride in sharing his beautiful gardens with family and friends. After Joe lost his son Robert, he decided to move into the Arbour Lake Residence where he made many friends, with Florence being one very special to him. Together, they enjoyed their lives in beautiful Arbour Lake. After Joe lost his sight, his sister Mary took on the job to help Joe with the tasks he was no longer able to do. Joe’s sense of humor, positive attitude and zest for life will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Joe is survived by his sister Mary Gazsi; his niece Mary Anne Gazsi; his grandchildren Stephen and Peter Szegedi; and his daughter-in-law Joanne Szegedi. His dear friend Florence and her son David and his wife Nancy for their friendship to Joe. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Anna Szegedi, his son Robert Szegedi and his Nephew John Gazsi. Private Family Services will be held by Joe’s request.
