Obituary of James Richard LUKES

1925 – 2013 Jim passed away peacefully on Friday, May 10, 2013 surrounded by his children. He leaves behind him his wife of 63 years, Alice, son Robert Lukes (Lola), daughters Judy Walder (Ron) and Joan Reidulff (Len) and six grandchildren; Katie and Sarah Walder, Bryant and Gareth Lukes and Joel and Mitchell Dauter. Jim was born in Radville, Sask on May 16, 1925. He graduated from the University of Sask in 1947. He married Alice Sheppard in 1949 in Turner Valley. Jim opened a drugstore in Redwater and later opened Lukes Drug Mart in Bridgeland, Calgary. As a licensed pilot, he enjoyed flying between the Calgary and Redwater stores. As a member of the North Hill Lions Club for several years, Jim was involved in a variety of community service projects. He held the position of president for one year. Jim and Alice lived many years in Renfrew and were long standing members of Renfrew United Church. In 1969, they moved to University Heights. They enjoyed the beautiful walks through the university grounds and the great access to the river trails for biking. Jim and Alice were fortunate to travel often and had many wonderful trips. Hawaii was a favorite destination for many years. A family favorite was an annual weekend in Waterton. Jim will be remembered by his family for his quick wit, optimism, strength and willingness to pitch in when help was needed. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.
