Obituary of Alice Ilona TOROK

1927 – 2013 It is with great sadness the family of Alice Torok announces her peaceful passing on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the Bethany Care Centre in Calgary at the age of 85. Alice was born in Budapest, Hungary. She and her family left Hungary in 1956, during the Hungarian uprising initially arriving in London, England before immigrating to Canada in 1960 to settle in Calgary. Alice worked for many years in the food service industry managing a number of restaurants in Calgary eventually retiring as a manager with the Calgary Co-op Association restaurant on Macleod Trail. She was an amazing cook herself and welcomed all into her home with wonderful meals and hospitality. Alice was a very strong proud woman who always put others ahead of herself. This strength was demonstrated in her courage and resolve to help her family move to Canada to a new life after the turbulent times in Hungary in the 1950’s. Her family remained her top priority through out her life being extremely devoted to her daughter and grandchildren. She was a tender, loving parent and grandparent. Her only daughter Aranka was fortunate to grow up with a mother who had the mixture of being strong, fair, gentle and loving. Her humanity was shared with all in her life. She loved all children, took in stray animals and would offer her support to anyone in difficulty. Anyone who knew her will attest to her willingness to share the warmth of her home and herself with open generosity and of course great Hungarian food. She was the anchor in our family. Alice is survived by he daughter Aranka Rosettis (Tom), granddaughter Monica Quinn (Darcy), grandson Michael Rosettis (Melanie) and great-granddaughter Nerissa Quinn. Alice was predeceased by her beloved husband Emil in 2006 and by her brother Bela Bujaki.
