Obituary of Thomas Tom William TOBIN
January 29, 1946 – March 28, 2013
Thomas “Tom” William Tobin, beloved husband of Jana, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the age of 67 years.
Tom was born in Shawinigan, QC, and lived most of his formative years in St. Lambert on the south shore of Montreal. He completed a business degree at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS in 1968. Tom moved to southern Ontario in 1972, where he started his career in explosives sales and met his wife. He worked for CIL/ICI for many years until he moved with Jana and his two children to Calgary in 1988 to work for Explosives Ltd. He left the explosives business in 2003 and began a second career in real estate until his retirement in 2007.
Those closest to him would say he had a big smile and a soft heart. He was a hunter of ducks and geese and an avid sports fan. He enjoyed a nice glass of wine, morning conversations over a cup of Tim Horton’s coffee, good musical theatre, and walks in Fish Creek Park. He was extremely proud of his children and their accomplishments.
Besides his loving wife Jana of almost forty years, Tom is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Bryce Zurowski; grandchildren Cole and Zachary; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Michelle Tobin; sister and brother-in-law Sheila Follett and Bernie Poetker and their family; sister and brother-in-law Heather and John Conlin and their family; mother-in-law and father-in-law Virginia and John Halpenny; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Claire and Peter Thorup and their family; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Scott and Denise Halpenny and their family. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Richard and Jean Tobin.
