Obituary of Margaret Eileen MURDOCK

October 28. 1918 – March 11, 2013 In the early hours of Monday March 11, 2013, in her 94th year, our dear mother, grandmother and friend, Peggy Murdock, quietly passed away. Born October 28, 1918 in Oyen, AB, Peggy was the second of six children born to Jim and Helena Gainer. As the daughter of a train station agent, Peggy spent her childhood years in Marengo, SK, attended high school in Rosetown, SK and spent a short time with the Sisters of St. Joseph in Toronto. Although Peggy was at boarding school when her family moved to Rosebud, AB, she considered it home and loved to take her family and friends there. In the mid 1940’s, Peggy moved to Calgary to attend business school; where she was subsequently employed by James’ Storage. She met her husband Stan Murdock at St. John’s Catholic Church youth group and they were married in September 1948. They were blessed with five children. Peggy spent much of her life giving back and was a generous supporter of many different charities. She inspired us with her zest for life, her unwavering faith, and her persevering independence. She was fortunate to have traveled to such places as the Holy Land, Italy and Hawaii. Peggy always enjoyed cheering on her favorite sports teams and especially loved the Calgary Stampede. And always, you could find Peggy with a good book in her hand. Peggy was predeceased by her beautiful daughter Mary, in 1972 and her loving husband Stan in 1985 and her siblings Verna Smith, Fay Liepins, Jerry Gainer and Elaine Gainer. She is survived by her sons Tom (Sally Scabar), Stan (Jackie), and her daughters Betty Anne and Kathleen (Domenic) Cimino. She was much loved by her grandchildren Connie (Klaus), Denise (Ron), Theresa, Stephanie (Steve), Jennifer (Carlos), Lisa-Anne, Sam and her great-granddaughter Jordan. Her sister Donna Collins and sister-in-law Flo Gainer will miss Peggy. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church (2223 – 34th Street S.W.) on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
