Obituary of Anne Louise READ

May 2, 1929 – February 28, 2013 Anne Louise Read passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the age of 83 years. Anne was the last surviving member of fourteen children born to George and Katherine (née Schreiner) Aschenbrenner on a homestead in northern Saskatchewan. Before her marriage to Jack Read on July 22, 1952 in Barthel, Saskatchewan, she worked as a supervising teacher in several country schools. Education was always very important to her, and it was a source of great pride that all four of her children finished University. Jack worked in the oil industry and over the years, they raised their family in several communities in Saskatchewan and Alberta, settling finally in Calgary in 1978. Anne was happy in her role as mother and homemaker. She considered her children her greatest achievement and was tireless in her support of their goals. For more than a decade she suffered from Alzheimers. She forgot many things but never her children or her husband, whose daily visits she enjoyed. Anne is survived by her husband of over sixty years, Jack; her four children Douglas (Carla), Darlene (Ross Phelps), Randy (Penny) and Ronald (Susetta); nine grandchildren; as well as a great number of nephews and nieces.
