Obituary of Marilyn Isabelle Lillian DYCK

Sadly, we announce the passing of our kind, generous and loving mom, sister, friend, grandmother and great grandmother, Marilyn Isabelle Lillian Dyck. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on February 20th, 2013. Marilyn was born in Bromhead Saskatchewan on Good Friday, March 30th, 1934. She was the eldest of four siblings. After high school, Marilyn left Bromhead to pursue further education in Edmonton. She looked back fondly on her time there with her Auntie Beryl and Uncle Earl. Marilyn was often missing her family and her uncle would always tell her not to worry because the spring would arrive soon and she would be on her way back home. He was right. Later, destiny brought Marilyn to Kamloops to reunite with her family. It was in Kamloops that Marilyn met the love of her life, Denis Dyck. She followed Denis to Calgary where they married and babies soon followed. Behind the scenes Marilyn championed all of her husband’s ideas. A hardworking and multi-talented woman who simultaneously raised four children, took care of her husband, helped to build the family insurance agency, and was a faithful sister, sister-in-law, and friend. During all that, Marilyn never forgot to have fun. Marilyn has joined her parents Elwyn and Lillian, her son Kevin, and her husband Denis. She leaves her sister Denise (Darrell), brothers Emory (Nancy) and Larry, daughter Debbie (Warren), daughter Dianne (Desmond), daughter-in-law Sandra, son Dennis Jr. (Tanya), grandchildren: Matthew (Sarah), Laird (Alicia), Desirae (Justin), Lynden, Jimmy (Katie), Aldene (Steve), Kirsty (Victor), Natalie, Porshia, Toshiro, and Robson, great grandchildren: Elijah, Samuel, and Theodore, and many more beloved friends and family. We want to express our sincere thanks to the many health care professionals that made Marilyn’s life, up to her final moments, as bright, comfortable, and as full of kindness as we could have ever wished. Marilyn was always stoic in the face of many challenges and she was constantly reminding us that “there is always hope”. The celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Cross (10620 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary) on Friday, March 1st, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. with the Reverend William Wiegert officiating.
