Obituary of Margo HUSBY-SCHEELAR

March 20, 1948 – February 13, 2013 Margo Husby-Scheelar of Calgary, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at the age of 64 years after a courageous battle against H1N1 flu. Margo was a valued member of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Calgary. She was a dedicated teacher who took a personal interest in her students’ academic and individual success. Margo was honored with numerous teaching awards and accolades on the local and national stage. She believed strongly in lifelong learning and worked diligently with her students to instill such a love. She holds Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Communication Studies and obtained her PhD in Education in 2003. In 2012, she took a sabbatical to complete a Master of Social Work degree. Margo was an example of unconditional love who was never afraid to stand up for what she believed, her students and people she loved. She searched for questions and answers about the meaning of life and explored them through academic, religious and spiritual study. It was her hope that sharing her process of inquiry and knowledge would enable students, colleagues, friends and family to challenge themselves. She welcomed and encouraged discussion and debate to increase understanding of many perspectives. Margo enjoyed traveling, reading, music, hiking and spending time with her friends, children and grandchildren. She is survived by her son Greg (Eileen) and grandchildren Annika, Arlen, Emma and Xavier, daughter Andrea and grandchildren Naylan and Paytan, sisters Patsy (Larry) McNish and Aileen (Warren) Smith, brother Brian (Joan) and numerous nieces and nephews and her mother Phyllis; and the special people in her life including Ken Scheelar (husband of thirty-five years), Chuck and Jean Bourque, Phyllis Sawchuk and Leslie Blair. She was predeceased by her father Archie Husby in 2005. Margo Husby-Scheelar touched many lives in unique ways. What is certain, is that she will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service at the University of Calgary will take place at a later date.
