Obituary of Kenneth Herbert ROBERTSON

1927 – 2013 Dad passed away peacefully in the company of his family in Calgary on Sunday, January 13, 2013. Kenneth is survived by his daughter and best friend Kathryn Christine (Dr. John V.M. McGrath and family), Calgary and favourite son Kenneth Scott Robertson, granddaughters Emily and Elaine as well as the mother of his children, Patricia Kathryn Robertson, all of Oakville, ON. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Donald George Robertson of NY, USA. Ken was a fellow who loved music, mechanics and sales during his lifetime and had been an inspiration to whomever he encountered. An accomplished pianist, he played at the Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto. Home was Oakville after he and Patricia married for some 40 years. Dad owned Robertson’s Esso Service on Lakeshore Road and was always there for a friend or neighbour in need. This generous spirit was a part of his life always. He loved laughter, practical jokes and anyone who had learned to “think for themselves”. Dad was a constant support to his children. He often spoke of his father advising him that “laughter was the lubricant of life” and to this end he persisted with that amazing talent, in spite of his illness. In the latter years of Dad’s life, he suffered with Parkinson’s disease. Dad tested his disease to its absolute extreme. Everything required work and work he did every day of his life. His intellect could not be challenged. Great survival techniques, Dad, we are very proud! From Cradle to the Grave For all the things you’d do For everything you gave, We thank and applaud you. Funeral services will be held in Toronto, ON, at a future date. Donations in Ken’s memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice or to the Parkinson’s Society of Canada, 4211 Yonge Street, Suite 316, Toronto, Ontario. M2P 2A9. The family will accept condolences via e-mail to kathymc grath@shaw.ca if so desired. You truly were one of the great men of our time!
