Obituary of Richard Douglas FREEBORN

July 9, 1952 – January 2, 2013 Ric passed away at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, after a 3-year battle with prostate cancer. Ric was born on July 9, 1952 in Edmonton, AB but lived in Calgary most of his life. He married Gae on November 13, 1971 and together they had two children, Kelly and Tim. Ric loved spending time with his family and together they enjoyed skiing, golfing and spending summers at Shuswap Lake where he loved driving his boat, wakeboarding and waterskiing. He enjoyed trips with his family to the Caribbean, which sparked his love of Reggae music, wearing Hawaiian shirts (or BBQ shirts as he called them), while enjoying a pint or a Jimmy Buffet “boat drink”. Ric is survived by his loving wife Gae; his children Kelly (Colin) Sankey, Tim (Clarabelle) Freeborn; and grandchildren Ethan and Tegan; his parents Doug and Elva Freeborn; and three brothers Randy (Susan), Don (Sherry), Dave (Maureen) Freeborn and all their children and grandchildren. Ric’s family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at Unit 101 in the Foothills Hospital who took good care of him in the last 3 weeks. Also, special thanks to Dr. D. Heng and his team at the Tom Baker Cancer Center for their excellent care. Ric’s wishes were not to have a funeral service, instead the family will have a private celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Prostate Cancer Canada, www.prostatecancer.ca. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Ric Freeborn, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W.
