Obituary of Joseph Orton Archie McCorquodale

November 25, 1918 – December 4, 2012 Archie McCorquodale of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at the age of 94 years. Born in Deepdale, MB, Archie attended school, and was wise beyond his years. He lived in Victoria, B.C, Penticton, B.C, Saskatoon, SK, Vancouver, B.C. and settled in Calgary, AB in 1960. In 1941 Archie married his loving wife, Elizabeth. Archie had various jobs in ship yards, as a mill worker, in propane sales, and garage helper, before finding his career. Archie became the regional manager for the Maytag Company, where he worked all of western Canada for thirty years before retiring in 1983. Archie was an avid golfer. Golf was a serious past-time for him, and he faithfully followed the PGA. He loved to support the Calgary Flames, but was knowledgeable about most professional sports teams. In the past year Archie learned to bowl. He loved to travel and visit family dispersed throughout western Canada. Archie was devoted to his family in all forms. You could say, “He always had our backs.” Spiritually he was a youngster; his son’s friends were often his friends as well. Archie could befriend anyone he wanted to know. Archie is survived by his son Brent; brother Riley McCorquodale of White Rock B.C; sisters-in-law, Irene (Rocky) Kwamsoos, Kelowna, B.C, Bonnie Gilmour, Saskatoon, SK and Agnes McCorquodale; brothers-in-law Stuart (Joyce) Gilmour and Bernard Gilmour; as well as many dear friends. He was predeceased by wife, Elizabeth, son Garland, parents Marie and Edward McCorquodale, brother Gordon (Agnes) McCorquodale, and many nieces and nephews.
