Obituary of Roderick James F.C.A. WHITEHEAD
May 21, 1929 – September 15, 2012
Roderick James Whitehead, husband of Nancy Whitehead died peacefully in Calgary on Saturday, September 15, 2012.
Roderick is survived by his wife Nancy (née Ogle) his children Michael (Debbie) Whitehead, Peter Whitehead (partner Jeffrey Goth), grandchildren; Trevor, Lauren and Amanda; and sister Nancy Edwards. Roderick was predeceased by his brother Philip Whitehead.
Roderick was born in Toronto and attended Rosedale Public School, U.T.S., and Trinity College at the University of Toronto. He married Nan in 1953 and in 1956 they moved west so Rod could open the office of Coopers and Lybrand Chartered Accountants. He spent much of his life, travelling the world, skiing, playing tennis, and enjoying his summers with his family and friends at the cottage.
Rod had many close friends. He had an inimitable way of making everyone he met feel special. Everyone who met Rod shared the same feelings; he was a special man. Constantly loving and kind, he walked through life a happy man, whistling along as he looked at the splendour of it all. We are all richer for having known him.
Rod was cared for by a host of angels at McKenzie Towne Care Centre for the last four years with Alzheimer’s disease.
May he now be with all of the other angels.
Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
