Obituary of Francis SLEIGH

SLEIGH, Francis June 7, 1949– August 30, 2012 Our brother, Francis Sleigh (Doo-do) of Calgary, was called home to his creator on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the age of 63 years. Francis was a kind, humble man who lived his life the way he was raised, traditional and respectful of life. Those who knew Francis, knew of his sense of humour, he was also a great story teller. Doo-do had a deep love and respect for God. This shone through in his playing of the guitar and his love of gospel music. He was a very meticulous man and constantly groomed himself. He was a father figure to all his nieces and nephews, a traditional role he took great pride in, sometimes stepping in as a disciplinarian. One lift of uncle’s cane was all it took. He was a farmer and labourer most of his life. He was down to earth, generous to all and wasn’t materialistic. He appreciated the simple things. Doo-do is survived by his siblings Lavina (Clayton), Christine, Catherine and Matthew Sleigh, also numerous nieces and nephews, aunties Rosealma Many Shots, Marie (Gordon) Crowchild, Margaret Good Eagle, uncle Leonard (Anne-Marie) Good Eagle, brother-in-law George Cardinal. He was predeceased by his parents Alphonse and Helen Sleigh, siblings Cecile YellowFly, John, Florine and Harold Sleigh, inlaws Percy YellowFly, Harvey Peace Maker, Leona and Theresa Sleigh aunties Maggie LaFrance, Laura Leather, Mary Rose Many Wounds, Lucy Weasel Head and uncle Harry Good Eagle. There are also nieces and nephews that welcomed their uncle into paradise. Doo-do has many relatives in Siksika, too numerous to mention, but the family acknowledges all. Wake Services will be held at the residence of Catherine Sleigh, Siksika Nation on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Cluny, AB on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Crowfoot Cemetery (Siksika Nation, AB).
