Obituary of Brian Edward HALAS

July 20, 1953 – August 3, 2012 Brian Halas of Calgary, AB passed away on August 3, 2012 at the age of 59 years. Brian was born in Calgary at the General Hospital on July 20, 1953. He enjoyed his life residing in the SE community of Ramsay right here in Calgary. Brian loved his home and has many memories as a child until his passing in his original family home. Brian started his education over at St. Anne Elementary school, as he grew into a man, he attended St. Mary’s High School. He later graduated from the University of Calgary and received his Bachelor of Education degree. Brian briefly taught over at the separate school board he attended as a child at St. Mary’s Boy school before he soon discovered another passion that he liked to call work. He exceled in becoming well-known as a licensed motorcycle mechanic at various motorcycle shops within the city. Brian was also very talented as a “handyman” worked in bricklaying, dry-walling and painting. His family and friends often requested his expertise and assistance over the years on their own personal upgrades. Brian loved to tinker with his hands and to have the opportunity to enjoy what he was doing when he worked on his agenda and nobody else’s. Recently Brian kept himself busy and could be found working over at the Crown Surplus store just off of 9th Avenue. Brian adored his family and most recently loved spending his time with the new and youngest addition into his family. Navan was the twinkle in his blue eyes and Brian made it well known that Navan was his very special pal. Brian was very family focused, he loved and cared for his mother (Muriel) at home and liked to keep in touch with his Aunts over in England (Ella), Australia (Marj) and right here in Calgary (Charolotte). Brian was known as a kind, gentle, and very sweet reliable guy not only to his family but also to his friends. He had many life long friends (Roman, Ron, Randy, Al, Bryan, Brad and Sandy) that he kept in touch with. Brian was loyal and was the go-to guy for his sister (Fran), niece (Sandi) and nephew (Greg). Brian was always available any time of day or night to his family’s needs and requests and always helpful and ready to help out with absolutely anything. Brian loved sports, especially the Calgary Flames, Hitmen and Stampeders. His extra curricular activities included the love of motorcycles. His garage always included a collection of many different marvelous motorcycles over the years. He loved to be outdoors with his friends on his motorcycle out in Waiparous and McLean Creek. Brian was a member of the Calgary Motorcycle Club and participated in Ice Racing. Brian also enjoyed camping and roasting marshmallows over a BIG campfire. Other activities included ice skating, and tennis. Brian was an amazing photographer; he was always the one taking everyone’s pictures instead of being in the photo. Brian loved nothing more than being surrounded by those he loved and indulging in a delicious meal. Uncle Brian became famous and well known for hosting his annual Stampede Oxford Stomp gathering in his own backyard. Brian enjoyed travelling to Australia and England and spending time with his long distant family in addition to many road trips over the years. Brian is survived by his sister Frances; niece Sandi; nephew Greg and his son Navan; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. Brian was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Muriel Halas and brother-in-law Carl Ferchau. “We miss you and love you forever!!” A Celebration of Brian’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 2:00p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
