Obituary of James WHITSON

August 6, 1914 – July 22, 2012 James (Jimmie) Whitson passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at the age of 97. Jimmie is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Edith; his daughter Freda, son-in-law Spencer (Noble) and his grand-daughter Mackenzy who lovingly thought of him as “Papa”. Jimmie was predeceased by his father John; mother Jane (Rothery); and sister Muriel. Jimmie was born in St. James, Manitoba. At an early age his family moved to Leith, Scotland and later to Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. He became a printer’s reader at the Rhodesian Printing and Publishing Company where he worked for 50 years. In 1985 Jimmie and Edith moved to Burnham-on Sea, England and in 1989 to Calgary. He had many interests throughout his life including playing the violin, photography, cutting gemstones, weaving and growing prize winning chrysanthemums and orchids. A Memorial Service will be held at Knox United Church (506 – 4 Street S.W., Calgary, AB T2P 1S7) on Friday, July 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations may be made directly to Knox United Church Foundation.
