Obituary of Malcolm Frank MAWER

1948 – 2012 Malcolm Frank Mawer beloved husband of Renate Haessner-Mawer of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the age of 63 years at the Foothills Palliative Care Unit after valiantly battling cancer for eighteen months. At his passing he was surrounded by his family and his closest friends for the last few hours on this earth. Malcolm was a most amazing man; honorable to a fault, generous, gregarious, embracing life with gusto and always thinking the best of everyone, wearing his heart on his sleeve. He was born in England and his family moved to Canada when he was eight years old. As a boy he was fascinated by rocks, so naturally he eventually became a geologist, spending a long and satisfying career with Petro Canada and other companies. As a second career he became a Realtor and he was one of the very best. For nearly twenty years in real estate he was a hundred percent committed to his clients who sought him out again and again, and introduced him to their families and friends. Malcolm was the ultimate dedicated family man, helping when and where he was needed and insisting on celebrating everyone’s successes and milestones in their lives. Malcolm will be greatly missed for his great sense of humor, his passion and drive for achievement, his trademark smile, his generosity and compassion. He loved spending time with family and friends over great food, good wine and conversation, loved parties, adored his daughter Heather and always tried to spend extra time with her. Last October, he was very proud to be able to walk her down the aisle on her wedding day and even dance with her without the help of a cane. Malcolm was grateful he got to spend almost three weeks with his son Anthony when he visited just before Malcolm had to go back to hospital. Next to good food and drink he enjoyed taking many memorable vacations with his wife, Renate of sixteen years, mostly to sunny southern spots where he was able to indulge in yet another passion, scuba diving. Malcolm will be lovingly remembered by his wife Renate Haessner-Mawer; daughter Heather (Mark) Kanary; son Anthony in Ontario; brother Nicholas in Ontario; his cousins and their families in Canada: Hillary Carpenter in Vancouver and Howard Martin in Ontario; his cousins and their families in England: Julie and Roy Nuttley, Debbie and Paul Watkins. Malcolm was predeceased by his parents Joan and Frank Mawer to whom he was a wonderful and devoted son.
