Obituary of Orval Albert HUNT

January 23, 1928 –Lancer, Saskatchewan September 3, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta Beloved Father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away Sunday, September 3 2017, surrounded by the love of his family and in the presence of his three daughters and his granddaughter. Dad was born in legendary Lancer, Saskatchewan to Sidney James Hunt and Lillian Elsie (Henderson) Hunt. Dad grew up during the depression and World War II. He ran away to join the army at the age of fifteen, was found out and promptly returned home. A good student, he was the only one in his class to graduate grade 12. He taught school for a year and then followed his brother to Calgary. There he met and married the love of his life, Margaret Anne Nash. They were married for sixty-three years. Dad worked in accounting for Canadian Western Natural Gas (now ATCO) for 37 years. They were lucky to have him! He enthusiastically participated in the company baseball, curling and golf. As well as sports, dad’s interests included hunting, and supporting his children and grandchildren in their activities. He was a devoted father, husband and son. A real man’s man, he ended up with three unusual and free spirited daughters. While he devoted himself to our safety and security, we sought adventure. We drove him crazy. He loved us anyway. As he aged, Dad grew more loving and gracious. We appreciate the tenderness with which he treated our mother during her illness and his consideration for us. Never a burden, he was a pleasure and a joy to visit. We are grateful for the love and support of our family and friends. Left to mourn are his daughters Debbie O’Rourke (John Williams), Donna Dyer (Kerry), and Kathie Hoglund (Calvin); grandchildren (he was so proud of all of you) Brendan O’Rourke, Colin Hoglund, Gordon Hoglund, Julie Anne Golightly and Sam Dyer; extended family and many friends. Orval was predeceased by his much loved wife Marg, his siblings Winnifred Johnson, Lloyd James Hunt, Wallace Hunt and Ken Hunt. A special thank you to Murray Johnson and family for keeping Saskatchewan and the manly arts alive for him. We would also like to thank the Staff of Whitehorn Village for their excellent care and loving environment. He loved you all! Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. In living memory of Orval Hunt, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.
