Obituary of Herbert William PARK

April 9, 1922 – April 25, 2012 Herbert William Park was born to Susan and James Park of Moose Jaw, SK, their last child, closely following his twin brother Albert on April 9, 1922. Passing peacefully, holding hands with his childhood friend of 86 years and wife Lillian of 66 years, on April 25, 2012. Affectionately, yet mischievously, known as one of “The Park Twins,” Herb enjoyed his childhood, youth, and formative years in Moose Jaw through the depression and dirty thirties. Enlisting in the Navy, he served Canada during WWII in the St. Lawrence and Newfoundland. Returning to Moose Jaw, Herb courted and married Lillian Harper, relocating to Calgary to begin their newfound love and life together. A natural salesman, Herb flourished in his vibrant and varied career, with his rich personality and pleasant demeanor, throughout Southern Alberta and Calgary. He retired from Crown Zellerbach at age 60. Free to pursue his hobbies, he rediscovered his artistic talents for painting and carving. No longer restricted by time, Herb spent many lazy days fishing or organizing and enjoying his passion for his coin and stamp collections. A man of many skills and talents, he was well known by his many nephews, friends, and neighbours as The Guy who could fix anything or would patiently teach you how to do-it-yourself. Always a provider, Herb’s green thumb allowed sharing of vegetables to many friends far and wide. Herb is survived by his loving wife Lillian; twin brother Albert of Selkirk, MB; daughter Cathe of Sooke, BC; daughter-in-law Fran; and precious grandson Shane of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Cecil and Bert; cherished nieces, Judi and Julia; and adored nephews, Wayne, Don, Ken, Kevin, Paul, and Henry. Herb also leaves in wondrous friendship his goddaughter Maureen; Alice and Art Dodd; and most recently special friend Shelley. Herb was predeceased by his brothers, James and Robert; sister Elizabeth; nephew Gordon; and tragically, his beloved son Greg in 2001. Always in touch throughout the years, through each owns trials and tribulations, The Park Twins, Herb and Al, were fortunate to unite with family and friends for their celebrated 90th birthday on April 9 of this year. “The hands of an angel will forever toil in heaven’s garden” In honour of Herb’s Life, a funeral service will be held at Northminster United Church (3311 Centre Street North) on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
