Obituary of Betty Lou Lou SCHURR-RICHARDS
December 31, 1949 – March 28, 2012
With heartfelt sadness we announce that after a valiant battle with cancer Betty Lou Schurr-Richards passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the age of 62 years.
Lou will be lovingly remembered for her strength, dedication, and compassion for others.
Lou grew up in Fisherville, Ontario, and had brief stays in Thunder Bay, and London before setting down roots in Calgary, Alberta. Here she raised her daughter, Nadine and son, Adam. Lou enjoyed her career being a CGA accountant and running her own corporation. Lou was also an instructor in business math and accounting at SAIT before becoming the CGA partnership coordinator. She really enjoyed working on the CGA partnership with SAIT and was proud to see its completion even after she had to step back to focus on her battle with cancer. Despite her health setbacks Lou still remained very active in her faith at First Lutheran Church serving on the church council. Lou’s involvement with the church was very important to her and was shown by her compassion and commitments to Inn from the Cold, the new refugees and her friends in the congregation. Lou was also very passionate and committed to her Colorectal Cancer Support Group at the Wellspring Calgary. Lou was not only able to draw her strength from her fellow support members, but also she was able to give back as a source of inspiration and strength to others. Her interests took her from golfing and ballroom dancing to drawing and gardening. Most of all she loved spending time with her granddaughter who always brought a smile to her face.
Lou is survived by her mother Vivian, big sister Nancy, baby brother Tom, her daughter Nadine, son Adam, and granddaughter Vivian. She is also survived by her nephews Nathan, Mackenzie, Tim, and niece Lisa. Lou was predeceased by her father, Ross Schurr.
