Obituary of Rita Florence SALT
May 18, 1922 – March 18, 2012
Rita Salt passed away peacefully in Calgary on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the age of 89 years.
Rita was born on a farm near Melville, Sask. She lived 4 years in Regina before moving to Calgary at age 25 where she resided until her death. In 1975 she married Louis “Shirley” Salt who passed away in early 1977. In August 1980, she retired from a 26 year career with Union Oil to start enjoying what would be a long and active retirement. Rita belonged to the Calgary Elks Golf and Country Club for many years. She was an avid hiker and cross country skier with the Calgary Senior Outdoor Club. Rita traveled extensively, visiting Hawaii, Bermuda, Israel, Hong Kong, South America, parts of Eastern Europe and Costa Rica.
Rita is survived by three brothers Ralph (Venita), Reuben (Mavis) and Everett (Abigail); sisters-in-law Marjorie Alberts (Alvin) and Ileen Alberts (Edward). She was predeceased by four brothers, Alvin, Bernard, Kelly and Edward; two sisters Mildred (Horace) Jackson and Margaret (Doug) Sleeth.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Cathedral, (219 – 18 Avenue S.W., Calgary) on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, in Rita’s memory, memorial donations can be made directly to the Canadian Red Cross.
