Obituary of Grant Edward TWANOW
December 28, 1965 – March 18, 2012
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and friend, Grant Twanow husband of Rebecca Twanow of Calgary, on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the age of 46.
Grant Edward Twanow was born December 28, 1965 at the Grace Hospital in Calgary. He attended elementary school in Forest Lawn. After moving to Lake Bonavista to grade nine, Grant then moved to DeWinton, to graduate from Okotoks High School. Grant was very active, and a part of the football and rugby teams, but his first love was the outdoors. As a kid he was an accomplished skier, which lead him to mountaineering and other outdoor pursuits. He enjoyed mountaineering, hiking, fishing, motor biking, kayaking, scuba diving, travelling, his work, cooking, and most of all his children. Grant was very spontaneous, living his life to the fullest. He always said that a good pair of shoes were always well worth it, so not to buy cheap ones. He was a great public speaker and an even better storyteller. He loved to talk to people and was always trying to find ways to help others. He loved a good restaurant and a great red wine. Grant had a zest for life, and above all he was an amazing Father, a good son and friend and loved all of us so very much. He will be greatly missed!
He was educated in the oil industry by taking a petroleum technology course at SAIT in Calgary and in 1986 began working with a petroleum wire-line company. With a downturn in the industry Grant upgraded his education at the University of Wyoming, graduating in 1989 as a Petroleum Engineer. Then he started working with Schlumberger of Canada in the petroleum well logging industry, where he first got exposure to open hole well logging and all facets of the industry from the drilling perspective. After that he worked at Sask Oil, on projects in Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC and in South America and Africa. From there he went to Northstrom Energy, CNRL Resources, Pengrowth Energy, Arcan Resources. Grant started his own consulting business around 1999, and is recognized as an expert in the Oil & Gas Industry.
Most people take the safe route and stay on the beaten path and when the journey is over they realize they didn’t do most of the things they wanted to do. Not Grant!
Grant is survived by his wife, Rebecca; four children, Nicola, Philip, Katrina and Isabelle, his Mother, Victoria; Father, Edward; brother James and sister Jill.
