Obituary of Joseph Francis REICHERT

September 7, 1934 – March 16, 2012 Our Joe left earthly wares for Heavenly cares on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the presence of his family at home. Joe was born in Macklin, Saskatchewan and enjoyed, as he says, “a blissful, happy childhood”. He was taught by his mother then finished his education at Castor, SK and Red Deer, AB. He attended the University of Alberta, finishing as a Professional Engineer through the Canadian Army. Joe and Shirl married March 10, 1959. They moved to England where he studied the British Army’s long survey program and stayed in the ASE for five years as an accomplished Arctic mapper/surveyor. Including a short stint on Canada’s behalf to mark the Syria-Israel border, respectfully regarded as the “Reichert Line” by his surveyor colleagues. Joe attended Queen’s University to complete an MBA and used his education well, as a Professor at the Royal Military College, then moved to B.C. to teach at Simon Fraser University. He finally migrated to Calgary, AB in 1968 to a quaint little area known as Scarboro and worked as a Senior Programmer for many years with Petro-Canada. Our Joe lived his life adventurously, with a very wry sense of humor. In later years he was a businessman experiencing a number of avenues and finished with a sixteen year journey in the dry cleaning business retiring at 75. Joe is survived by his sons, Mark of Coquitlam, BC and Karl of Calgary, AB; his sister Sarah Richards of Saskatoon, SK; and his long time friend and steadfast companion Korenna Kardell; as well as numerous family members and friends, especially a rambunctious group known as “The Sillybuggers”. Joe joins his beloved Shirl (2004), his father Frank (2005), and mother Helen (2006). At Joe’s request there will be no funeral, however he encourages all to visit him and Shirl at the Sacred Heart Columbarium, located at 1307 – 14 Street SW Calgary, AB.
