Obituary of Florence DOBSON

December 25, 1922 – March 11, 2012 It is with a great sense of loss, and sadness that we announce the quiet passing of our dear wife and mother Florence Mary Dobson (nee Davey) with family members at her side. Florence will forever be lovingly remembered for her dedication to her family and will be greatly missed. Florence, and her twin brother Charlie, were born in Edmonton, AB on December 25, 1922, and Florence was raised there, in Calgary and in California. After graduating from Western Canada High School, she had a brief stint working in retail at the Bay and the “Met”. It was while working at the “Met” that she met Gordon Dobson. On September 19, 1942, Florence & Gordon were married. They celebrated their 69th anniversary in 2011. Florence continued to work until the birth of their first son, Gordon (junior) in November 1948. From that date on, Florence “retired” to raise her family. In September 1952, a second son, Gerald, was born. Until the day she passed away, Florence’s main focus was always her family. Florence had an amazing memory which she used to great advantage when playing cards – this made her a formidable opponent. She took great pleasure in “people watching”, and always took a keen interest in others. Florence is survived by her husband Gordon, and her son Gordon (Maureen), as well as by her loving niece Mary Schaufele, and her nephew Wallace Houston. She was predeceased by her father Thomas Davey, her mother Mary Davey, her sister Rose Houston, her twin brother Charlie, her older brother Tom, and her son Gerald. At the family’s request, there will be no memorial service, her family will bid her farewell in a small private gathering.
