Obituary of Blair Elain METHERAL

April 8, 1943 – March 5, 2012 Blair Elain Metheral of Calgary, AB, passed away on March 5, 2012 due to complications from breast cancer at the age of 68 years. Born in Maloy, Alberta to Wayne Wilber Palmer (1900-1968) and Dorothy Christina Palmer (nee Guernsey) (1912-1985), in 1943. Blair was raised on their farm near Goodridge, AB on the Beaver River with her brothers and sisters. She always said how many great times they had together there. Some of Blair’s teachers at White Rat School had a profound effect on her growing up too. Blair loved to dance and horseback ride with friends. At age fourteen she went to work at the Glendon Hotel, she moved to St. Paul, AB, to work as a waitress and then a cashier in a convenience store. By the time Blair was eighteen she moved to Calgary to work for Safeway as a cashier. She married James Patrick Metheral (1943-2010) on April 03, 1965. Jim and Blair were together until 1995. They had two sons together, Perry James (June 17, 1967) and Jason Price (April 27, 1970). The family lived in Calgary until 1976 when they moved to Hinton for nine years. While in Hinton Blair was a member of Al-Anon, she participated in a local bowling league, and managed a Red Rooster Store. In 1985 Blair’s family moved back to Calgary and Blair spent the majority of her time with Calgary Family Services caring for people in the Calgary community. Blair enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts including sewing, knitting, crochet, needlepoint, community drum circles, playing guitar and harmonica. Blair had many family and friends who loved her dearly. Many of them describe her as a tough farm girl, who is gentle and kind. She was compassionate and always willing to help out. She had a genuine smile, was generous, friendly, inspirational, hopeful, accepting, compassionate and a calm lady. Blair is survived by Perry (Lara), Jason (Jody), and their daughter Jorja June (born July 17, 2007), nephew Kenneth (Maureen) and niece Karry (Morgan), sister-in-law Diane and son Troy, daughters Tanya (Chris) and Trudy (Shannon), her sister Nadine, sons Robert (Nancy), Milton (Sherry) and daughter Diane (Bob), brother Robert (Linda) their daughter Lisa (Walter), and son Cody (Tammy), brother Doug (Denise) and their sons Wayne (Tammy), Dewayne and Kevin, sister Dale (Mike) and their daughters Seline and Rene. Blair was predeceased by her father and mother, sister Shirley 1996 and brother Roy in 2007.
