Condolences
My deepest condolences to all who love & cherish Hazel.
My blessings to you Hazel. You were a wonderful, kind and generous lady and will continue to be in the hands of God. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and your “extended care family”. God Bless.
I am a former classmate of Hazel’s at Laurentian High School in Ottawa. She was a wonderful person and I am very saddened by her passing.
Hazel will always be a star to aspire to in the area of community investment. Her dedication to the non-profit sector was known by all those that were fortunate enough to benefit from her guidance and support.
My sincere condolences to Hazel’s family and close friends. She showed such courage through her cancer journey thank to your ongoing support.
I am so blessed to have had the privilege to share life’s journey with an amazing woman like Hazel. She truly was an angel among us and I treasure those memories. United in spirit.

Hazel and I were joined by a love for life even in the face of health adversity. Her mind was engaging and she constantly was looking for answers to help her and others understand the way things were. I liked her “no stone left unturned” approach and adopted it myself. With this beautiful mind, it is no doubt she has left so many touched by her kindness and spirit. I like to think of myself among them.
TO the Family of Hazel Gillespie, I had the privilege to work with Hazel at Petro-Canada. She was a joy to know as a person with a love of life and a personality that saw no end. My condolences and prayers are with you today
My heart goes out to Hazel’s family and her vast circle of friends – I have always felt honoured to be her friend. In thanks for her ongoing support of the Comfort Heart Initiative I have purchased Comfort Hearts to be given to others who can benefit from having one in hand. God speed Hazel. You are now an angel in Heaven whose name we know. Love to all from Carol Ann Cole (Toronto)
Hazel, I will always remember your kindness, gentle ways and counsel. And that mischievous smile.
To Hazel’s Team – my condolences. I hope that life will be as good to you all as you have been to Hazel.
God Bless.
I was privileged to work closely with Hazel for many years, and to be graced by her very special friendship. She was a unique person in lots of wonderful ways.
People like Hazel are very rare, and to have shared so many experiences with her over many years was truly a joy.
She was a role model for us all.
The world is smaller with her passing.
God bless you Hazel. It was such a privilege to have known you and worked with you on community projects that we hoped would make a difference.
My prayers to your family and community of friends. You will be missed, but you ‘left the world in a better place’.

Hazel was truly the definition of “community.“ I was in grade 12 at Dr. E.P. Scarlett and Hazel was apart of our advisory board for the Petro-Canada partnership. Hazel with her generous spirit and incredible leadership gave me and the students of Scarleet a wealth of resources to lead a teddy bear drive at Christmas and also an Easter party at CUPS in the spring. Both events by high school standards were truly successful and her legacy has continued to inspire me to give back to my community both personally and professionally. What a remarkable woman.
To Hazel’s family and friends;
I had the privilege of working with Hazel as a recipient of PetroCanada funding. Over the course of this professional relationship, Hazel taught me about what it means to truly build a relationship between two organizations and how to take the corporate relationship down to a personal level. Her sense of community pride, her professionalism and her grace shaped the way Calgary’s corporate community engages in philanthropic activities. Our city has been forever touched by her actions.
Hazel provided leadership in so many ways. She was a pioneer and her legacy will be with us forever in so many different iterations. She will be missed, but not forgotten.
Dear Hazel: I’ll miss our talks and our teas. You were one of a kind. You will be missed by many…and welcomed by many more.
May angels rest beside your door,
May you hear their voices sing.
May you feel their loving care for you,
May you hear their peace bells ring.
Hazel, the world is a better place for blessing us all with your graceful presence. Your spirit will live on through all of us you have inspired.
