Obituary of Mary Marcella Sally WARRENDER
June 1, 1926 – February 23, 2012
Passed away peacefully at Chinook Hospice on Thursday, February 23, 2012 in her 85th year. Survived by her beloved husband Cam. Loving mother to Brian (Pat) of Kelowna, Christine Bobenic of Calgary, Rob (Carol) of Red Deer and Liz (Mike) Kasian of Calgary. Cherished grandmother to Tricia (Sean) Barry, Alec (Marina) Warrender, Rachel (Todd) Hicks, Jillian Warrender, Austin and Jordan Kasian; and proud great-grandmother to Alma and Noah Barry.
Sally was born in Toronto and raised in Peterborough, Ontario. She could regale you with fond memories of her youthful days, many of which involved figure skating with friends. Sally worked briefly with the Royal Bank before she married her loving husband Cam in 1948. Their journey included stops in Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg and Peterborough before they settled in Calgary in 1968. Sally will be remembered for her uncompromising devotion to her family, her natural charm and her gracious manner. She was gifted with contagious optimism and her encouraging attitude motivated those around her. Comfortable in any setting, she loved a social occasion, particularly if it included a dance. She was a woman of wide ranging interests, an avid bridge player, ardent curler, enthusiastic golfer and a keen traveller. Many summers were enjoyed with family and friends at the Sylvan Lake cottage and in the retirement years’ winter escapes to Phoenix. Sally was an active member of Engineer’s Wives, Elder Hostel, the Glencoe Club, Maple Ridge Ladies Golf and the Family Leisure Centre Senior’s Club. She contributed many hours to the Calgary community as an active member and Past President of Rotary Club of Calgary South Partners.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (1414 Shawnessy Boulevard S.W.) on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Father Andrew Maruszczak will be officiating, a reception will follow at the church.
