Condolences
Hello Brenda,
I was a class mate of Rick (as we knew him) going back to 2nd year, 1984 at the U of S. I was thinking of him tonight and thought I would try and look him up to see what he is doing now and see whether he weathered the geology profession. I am just shocked to find out of his passing years ago. Every comment I’ve read here pretty well nails Rick. He was such a good guy, alway full of life and optimism. And just a smart cookie – he helped me get through our structural geology class ( we were one of the 50% that made it through….it was nasty)
Although its been well over 30 years since we last saw each other he really left a mark. My heartfelt and deepest condolences to you, the kids and the rest of your family. I am so sorry to read of his passing.

Just heard heard yesterday from Jordan that Richard had passed away and wanted to pass along my family’s condolances. Richard was as friendly and as genuine a man as you will meet.

Brenda and family,
I was so shocked to hear of Richard’s passing as he gave me much encouragement in my operating the Tiverton oil and gas wells at Bellshill and his new find in the Galahad field. My prayers are with you all, and will always cherish the memories of the Tiverton Christmas parties and visits to the field.
We are so saddened by Richard’s death. He was an amazing friend and “bigger than life” really is an understatement. We will miss him but have lots of memories.
Brenda and Family,
Please accept my condolences on the passing of your Husband and Father. I worked with Richard at Tiverton, and always enjoyed hearing of the delicious sounding meals he would prepare for all of you. He loved the Food Network, and got me hooked!
No one in the office shared in his joy, and absolute delight, the day he brought the canned Chicken into work for lunch though! He was able to enjoy that all to himself, and he didn’t have to share a bite!
He spoke often of his love for you Brenda, and of his children. He was always the first one into the office, and the first to leave, so he could be home for his kids after school. I had spoken with Richard a couple of months ago, and he was just beaming through the phone telling me how proud he was of his children.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all!
Brenda and family,
Please accept my sincere condolences on Richard’s passing. He was a good geologist and a good guy. We had a lot of good times when we worked together.
Sincerely,
Roy Smith

It is with a very heavy heart that Karen and I just heard of Richard’s passing. Our thoughts are with you all. Richard was as giving a person as we have meet. Whether he was volunteering in Taylor’s class at Sam Livingstone, leading our Cub packs and Scout camps or volunteering at his church, Richard was always helping others. He was one of the most talented and passionate Geologists that I have worked with and I will always remember his eternal optimism.
Karen and I are out of town and will be unable to attend Mondays service but will be thinking of you.
Kevin, Karen, Nicole and Logan
We are so very sorry to hear of your loss. Our hearts go out you.
Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time in your life. I will always remember Richard helping with our Rocks and Minerals science unit. He was so dedicated to his family. Richard always had a kind word and a smile for all.
I met Richard through the scouting movement and was always impressed by his passion and commitment to the kids. My condolences to his family…
Brenda – I am so sorry for your loss. I know how difficult this is for you and your boys. My thoughts are with your family.
My sincerest condolences to the family. I spent many weekends at Scout Camp with Richard as well as working with him at Apache. He will be missed.
Hank, hey it’s me, big Jeff. Im so sorry about the loss of your son. Even though I only knew him for a short time I can truly say he was one of my best friends. He was pretty much the only reason I went to the “border x-ing”. It’ll be hard for me to go back there without him to chat with. We used to take turns listening to each others problems, mind you now mine were nothing compared to his. My thoughts and Carolyns are with you, your wife his daughter, her boyfriend and Richards little new grand son which he loved with all his heart, I know I was there the day he found out he was a grand daddy, he cryed and I’ll never forget that day……I’ll never forgt Richard!….Hey buddy we’ll chat again someday keep a stool ready for me when I get up there and watch my drink when I use the washroom…I loved you buddy take care! “big” Jeff
My sincerest condolences to the family of Richard. He was a good friend and allways passionate about life, geology and it was always fun to be with him. I deeply sorry I can’t be with the family to celebrate his life but my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
