Obituary of Desmond REES
November 2, 1924 – February 16, 2012
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Desmond Rees, beloved father and grandfather who passed away peacefully at age 87.
Des is survived by children Susan (Richard) Glenn, Elaine Boyce, and Vic (Wendy) Rees, eleven grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. He is also survived by his first wife, Audrey Rees and his second wife Betty M. Rees and her son, Ron Nicholson.
Des was born in Carnforth, Lancashire, England and served in the Royal Navy, during WWII. After immigrating to Canada in 1952, his young family settled in Calgary. He served with the Canadian Armed Forces from 1954 – 1974, with UN Peacekeepers in Egypt and Cyprus. Des was a proud member of the Order of the Burma Star and was their flag bearer for many years. After retiring from the Armed Forces, Des worked for the City of Calgary. He was a fabulous father and grandfather who always had time for his children and grandchildren. He was a skilled handyman who enjoyed golfing, had a quick wit and loved to joke.
He was a bright spot in our lives and will live forever in our hearts.
We love you Dad.
