Obituary of Edith ANTAL
December 2, 1958 – February 14, 2012
Following a courageous six-year battle, our beloved wife and mother Edith Antal was called to her eternal rest in the presence of her family on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the age of 53 years.
Edith Garai was born on December 2, 1958 in Szabadka and graduated with a bachelor’s in linguistics. She met Joseph Antal in high school in 1976 and they married on May 21, 1983. After making the difficult decision to move the family, they moved to Calgary in 1992 and have been active members of the community. Edith was well-known for her charity work as a member of Franciscan Secular Order (OFS), and a pastoral care group; she was also president of the Hungarian Canadian Cultural Association. She worked for Calgary Laboratory Services, and was an avid fan of the outdoors, frequently taking trips to the mountains with her family and beagle Dani.
Edith leaves to mourn and fondly remember her husband of twenty-eight years Joseph; sons Gabor (Katherine) and Andrew; daughter Clara; mother Anna Garai, aunt Julia Palics of Szabadka; brother Laszlo and family of Hungary; as well as numerous extended family and friends in Europe and Canada. She was predeceased by her father Laszlo Garai in 2003.
