Obituary of Norma BABCOCK

March 30, 1932 – February 13, 2012 Norma Babcock, beloved wife of Barry Babcock, a native of Halifax, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2012 at the age of 79. Norma was born in Todmorden, a farming community near Toronto. Barry and Norma married on May 23 of 1953. As Barry served in the RCAF, the couple moved often in the early years of their marriage, living in Summerside, PEI, Winnipeg, MB, London, ON, Chatham, NB, and Wolfville and Greenwood, NS. They continued to live in the Annapolis Valley after leaving the service in 1971. In the following years, they worked to build a family golf business and develop the Paragon Golf Club. They were awarded lifetime memberships for their contributions. Norma and Barry moved to Calgary in 1991 following the tragic death of their son Bryan in 1988. During her thirty years as a tax preparer with H&R Block, Norma formed many friendships with co-workers and clients alike, who appreciated her caring, conscientious nature and strong work ethic. Norma developed a passion for golf and treasured the opportunities to play with Barry, her children and her friends. While a good player, she was unable to beat her golf pro husband on the course, but she could beat him every time on the Scrabble board. Norma had a boundless capacity for love. Never wanting to stand out in a crowd, she dedicated her life to helping others, especially her family members. Subsequent to raising her four boys, she raised her first, adorable “baby girl,” Meadowfield Lady Victoria Lee, her toy poodle. Predeceased by her brothers Jack and Don, her sister Marie and son Bryan, Norma is survived by her sister Lois (Ivan) Gibson, her husband Barry, her sons Mike (Anna), Paul (Maureen) and Glenn (Lois), seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Norma will remain forever in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her. If desired, donations in lieu of flowers may be made the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society. A Celebration of Norma’s life will be held at McInnis & Holloway’s Crowfoot Chapel on Saturday, February 18, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com
