Obituary of Salvatore MARRA

November 20, 1921 – February 9, 2012 Salvatore Marra, beloved husband of sixty years of Maria Marra of Calgary, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the age of 90 years. Salvatore was born in San Giovanni in Fiore, Italy and immigrated to Canada in1962. He was a World War II veteran and a German Prisoner of War. Salvatore will be remembered for his love of gardening and especially his love for his family. Salvatore is survived by his loving wife Maria; two sons and two daughters, Giuseppe Marra, Tommasina (Leon) Slomka, Saletta Marra and Giovanni (Suzanne) Marra; and ten grandchildren, Amanda, Keith, Matthew, Sarah, Sean, Devin, Trevor, Jordan, Tayler and Regan. He is also survived by two sisters, Rosina Marra and Anna Marra in San Giovanni in Fiore, Italy as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Tommasina Marra; and four brothers, Francesco, Giovanni, Antonio and Fr. Silvester Marra. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Mausoleum.
