Obituary of George GUZAK

April 20, 1917 – February 5, 2012 Holding the hand of his Goddaughter Wendy McOmber, George Guzak (Uncle George) died peacefully the morning of Sunday, February 5, 2012. His passing was with the same grace and quiet dignity with which he lived his life. While it is with great sorrow that we let him go, our hearts are relieved to see an end to his suffering. We say goodbye with love in our hearts and release him into the Lord’s care. Besides his Goddaughter Wendy (Stan Schwartzenberger), Uncle George is survived by his sister Sophie Hluchaniuk of Ashcroft, BC who will be 99 on her birthday in July. He is also survived by his friend and companion of almost fifty years, Al Carlson of the Bethany Care Facility. Also remembering Uncle George with love are his nephews, Bill (Pauline), Peter (Beryl), Wayne (Marilyn), and Jerry Guzak and nieces, Helen Shelestynski, Angelin (Brian) Johnson, Sonya (Keith) Aher, Mary Irwin, Natalie Elliott and Darleen (John) Rice. Uncle George will also be remembered by his many great-nieces and great-nephews. Uncle George was predeceased by his parents John and Anastashia; and his brothers and their wives, Nick (Molly), Dick, Peter (Florence) and Mike (Stella), as well as Pat Guzak and his niece Olga Thompson and great-niece Tracy Owen. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Friday, February 10, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Hillcrest Extendicare who all participated in the enrichment of Uncle George’s life for the last number of months. Your dedication and compassion will never be forgotten. We would also like to thank Dr. Gordon Melling and nurse Sharon Cohen for many, many years of kindness, support and wonderful medical care. Finally, a special thank you to Father Myles Gaffney for coming to Uncle George’s bedside on short notice in our time of need.
