Obituary of Larry SAKAMOTO
February 4, 1948 – February 5, 2012
Larry Sakamoto, beloved husband of Louise Sakamoto of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at the age of 64 years.
Larry was born in Taber, Alberta on February 4, 1948 and moved to Lethbridge with his family in 1956. In his youth, he excelled in judo and was part of a team that won major championships at the provincial and national levels. Larry moved to Calgary in 1969 and married Louise Teshima in 1972. He was employed at AkzoNobel Canada (ICI Paints) for over twenty-five years. He played slo-pitch and was involved in a hockey pool for many years.
He leaves to mourn, with fond and loving memories, Louise, his wife of thirty-nine years and his son, Craig. He is survived by his mother, Asaye Sakamoto; brother, Norman Sakamoto; sisters, Lillian (Allan) Leavens, Irene Sakamoto, Evelyn (Jim) Cozac, Janice (Bob) Foster, Carolyn Sakamoto; sisters-in-law, Tobie Sakamoto, Marie (Naozo) Konno, Linda (Bob Hetherington) Teshima; brother-in-law, Roger (Lynne) Teshima; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Masahiro and his brothers, George and Darren. Larry will be missed, not only by his family, but by his many friends. He will be remembered for his generosity and his sense of humor.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, February 10, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
