Obituary of Margaret Alberta Steacy SCOTT
June 16, 1921 – Vancouver, British Columbia
December 10, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta
Marg Scott passed away peacefully in Calgary on Monday, December 10, 2018 at the age of 97 years.
Marg taught elementary school for many years in North Vancouver but is most remembered for her involvement in aquatic sports ranging from teaching and examining in the Red Cross and Royal Life Saving programs and volunteering as a national coach and official of competitive swimming, diving and synchronized swimming. She particularly enjoyed the 15 years coaching the Calgary Special Olympics Synchro Stars. Marg’s philosophy was to do one’s best to help others to do their best. Marg was recognized for tireless volunteer work in the aquatics world with her induction into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in 1976 and in 1994 was selected by the Calgary Booster Club as the Sportsman of the Year. When not involved in the aquatics world, Marg and her husband Dave, enjoyed camping holidays as well as travels around the world.
Marg is survived by her son Brian (Joanne) of Cochrane, daughter Susan MacDonald of Whitehorse, Yukon, grandchildren, Kim (Tony) Paradoski, Kris (Sheryl) Carruthers, Kelly Carruthers, Michael (Shinko); great-grandchildren, Nole, Brooke, Molly, Oliver, Hailey, Karley, Eden and Gabriel; and Susan’s Godson Fr. Ain.
Marg was predeceased by her beloved husband Dave Scott in 2006, parents Oliver and Alberta Bell, brother Lyall O. Bell and his wife Kay; and son-in-law John MacDonald.
At Marg’s request, no service will be held. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of one’s choice in Marg’s memory.
