Obituary of Leo Joseph SMITH

November 13, 1920 – January 9, 2012 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Leo Joseph Smith of Calgary on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the age of 91 years. He was born on November 13, 1920 in Lundbreck, AB to James and Winnifred Smith. Leo was the 8th of eleven children and was the last surviving sibling. Leo was a veteran of WWII in the RCAF as a tail gunner and worked for over thirty-years in the oil and gas industry. He was an active member at the Calgary Aerospace Museum, Tail Gunners Association and the Nanton Air Museum. Leo is survived by his five children, Cynthia, Wendell (Susan), Tim (Sherry), Maureen, and Shawn (Danica); three grandchildren that were the light of his life, Bre-Anne, Noah and Caden; sister-in-law Dorothy Bannon; brother-in-law Robert (Pat) Cook; as well as many nieces and nephews. Leo was predeceased by his wife Audrey in 1973; special niece Donna Schultz; and six nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Ascension Catholic Church (1100 Berkshire Boulevard N.W.) on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
