Obituary of Robert HORTON
January 24, 1921 – January 6, 2012
Robert (Bob) Horton passed away peacefully at the Chinook Hospice on Friday, January 6, 2012, at the age of 90 years. Bob will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Anne Cunningham; son Rick (Carol) Horton, both of Calgary; brother Jim (Evelyn) Horton of Winnipeg; grandchildren Sean (Frances Powell) Cunningham of Los Angeles, Erin Cunningham, Marnie Cunningham (Shawn Newell), Sam Horton, Jake Horton; and great-grandchildren: Louella and Sheperd, all of Calgary. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Joyce, in 2004. Bob was a much-admired elementary school principal in Calgary until his retirement in 1981. He made the most of his retirement, enjoying fishing, canoeing, gardening, travelling, photography, wine making and pottery. He liked to mix different compounds to make a variety of glazes for his clay pots, putting his experience as a chemist during the war to good use. Throughout his life, Bob sang in choirs and he was an active member, until mid-November, of the Calgary Music Makers Choir, as well as the Living Spirit Church Choir.
Friends and family are invited to share in a celebration Bob’s life, at Living Spirit United Church, 629 – 49th Ave. SW in Calgary, on Friday, January 20, 2012 at 11:00 am.
