Obituary of Leonard Wilfred Len CISSELL
March 11, 1932 – December 4, 2011
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Leonard Cissell of Calgary after a short brave battle with cancer.
Len is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-four years Michalene (Micky) of Calgary; his loving son Brian (Anne); daughter Sheila; grandchildren, Brenda, Lisa, Vanessa, Krystal, and Andrew; and son-in-law John van Rooy; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, extended family and close friends. Len will be greatly missed by three brothers, Joseph (Vicky), Paul (Elsie), and Bernard (Beatrice).
Len was predeceased by his big brothers, Don and Gordon (Bernice) Cissell; big sisters, Bernice (Arnold) Linder and Helen (Svend) Larson; and brothers, Delbert and James, who died in infancy.
Len enjoyed the great outdoors the most, especially hiking, skiing and biking. In his earlier years, Len was employed in the construction and operations of refineries and gas plants. Later in accident prevention and safety positions with the provincial and federal governments. He strove to make the work world a safer place.
He was active in various executive positions with the Alberta Association of Safety Personnel and was an Honorary Life Member of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering as well as an active volunteer with St. Luke’s Catholic Church.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W.) on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 8:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (1566 Northmount Drive N.W., Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W.) on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to thank our loving nephew/cousin Ron (Ilia) Linder, the Doctors and Nurses of Unit 91 at the Foothills Medical Centre, Palliative care nurse Jennifer King and her unit. A special thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at Rosedale Hospice for the outstanding care given from such wonderful caring, loving people.
