Obituary of George Ernest MONTGOMERY

May 12, 1925 – November 27, 2011 George, our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2011 at the age of 86 years. George will be lovingly remembered by his children, Glenn (Linda), Lynda (Ron), Rhonda (Ken), Donna, Jayne (John), Colleen (Ron), and Colin; six grandchildren, Greg, Ashley (Justin), Kaley, Michael, Jack and Alex; and one great-grandchild Haydan. He also leaves to mourn his brother William (June) and many other relatives and dear friends. George was predeceased by his wife of fifty-nine years Lillian Margaret (Peggy); his son Robert Alexander; and his sister Margaret. George was born to Alex and Jeanetta Montgomery in Namaka, Alberta on May 12, 1925. He and Peggy were married on December 16, 1950 in Calgary. They moved several times within Canada before settling in Edmonton in 1964 to raise their eight children. George worked the majority of his career, thirty-seven years, for GMAC before his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the Edmonton Downtown South Rotary Club until 1989 when he and Peggy moved back to Calgary, where he then continued with the Calgary South Rotary Club. George was most happy during family gatherings, winters in Phoenix, watching sports on the television, and on the golf course. He golfed at the Royal Mayfair and Windermere Golf Clubs in Edmonton and the Pinebrook Golf and Country Club in Calgary. George was loved by many for his quick sense of humour, his loyalty and devotion to his family, and his open door policy at the Montgomery household.
