Obituary of Gail QUARTLY

May 23, 1947 – November 6, 2011 We lost Gail after a brief, unexpected illness on Sunday, November 6, 2011. Her children, Deanna (Jason) and Darryl (Bruce), to whom she was literally everything, were with her when she decided it was time to give up her courageous fight. She will be cherished forever by her brightest lights, her grandchildren, Sharalyn (Mike), Jacob and Juliana, as well her great-granddaughter JaiLyn. She was a proud older sister to her three brothers and sister and was adored by many nieces and nephews who were held close to her heart. There are too many friends to mention but if we created a composite, this person would resemble Cid (Cindy) who Gail thought held the moon. Gail was a single Mom who knew an education was the path to her family’s success. Juggling kids, work and school, she eventually completed her Certified Management Accounting (CMA) Designation in 1991. She embarked on a long career in accounting that filled her days with challenge and immense satisfaction. She was extremely proud of her membership in PASC and CAPPA. Gail’s happiness with the professional admiration of her colleagues was surpassed only with that of their personal affection. The highlight of any week would be a gathering that involved treats. She kept a large stash in her office in a thinly veiled attempt to attract visitors. We are grateful to Gail’s work family at Perpetual Energy who filled her soul for giving it all over to her family in her off time. Sue Rose was a true inspiration as a woman in leadership and Gail admired her greatly. Thank you for allowing Gail to realize her career aspirations. Gail stayed fit and trim with weekly visits to Curves. She loved golfing although it wasn’t always mutual. She enjoyed walking, an activity shared with many walking partners and one she and her son did together often. The completion of the Walk to End Breast Cancer was a particular fitness goal which turned into an achievement that permeated her entire life. Thank you, Shawna. Gail received the most amazing care during her brief stay in the ICU at Rockyview Hosptial. Eternal thanks to Dr. Alvarez, nurses Melissa and Jody and the entire team for their heroic measures in the battle to heal our mother. A Celebration of Gail’s Life will be held at the Innisfail Golf Club on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Formal dress NOT required, come as you are. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. Gail would be pleased if you invested in education of any kind, as it truly is the path to success. In living memory of Gail Quartly, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.
