Obituary of Erik Fladeland NIELSEN

May 2, 1928 – October 28, 2011 Erik Nielsen beloved husband of Dorit Nielsen of Airdrie, AB, passed away on October 28, 2011 at the age of 83 years. In his early years Erik proudly wore the uniform of the Danish Airforce. Erik married Dorit Agnes Thorsen, his childhood friend, on July 18th, 1953. They were married for fifty-eight and a half wonderful years. During this time they had three children, a son Niels and two daughters Pia and Dorte. Erik owned a mushroom farm in Denmark, until he immigrated to Canada in June of 1973. He became a master mushroom grower and remained active in the industry consulting both here and overseas, until he reluctantly retired at the age of 76. Erik had many hobbies and talents. In his earlier years photography played a large role in his life, and later on wine-making, gourmet cooking and gardening became his passions. Erik was such a generous and special person, and so integral in our family, that he will be sorely missed and will be in our hearts wherever we go, for always. A Memorial Service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Master (216 Main Street South, Airdrie, AB) on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
